York star Scott Galeano appears set for a stint on the sidelines having been forced off with a groin injury during the Knights’ defeat at Leigh Leopards.

Australian winger Galeano struggled through the first half at the Leopards’ Den on Friday night before being withdrawn at half-time with the visitors only trailing 12-10.

A tight-knit contest ended up 22-14 to hosts Leigh, who took a step closer to cementing their spot in the Super League play-offs.

Galeano’s injury was one of few negatives on the night for York, who return to action on Thursday night with another away trip to Warrington Wolves.

Ahead of the clash against Wire though, there would appear to be positive injury news on the horizon, with experienced outside-backs David Nofoaluma and Ben Jones-Bishop both set to be back in the mix.

Post-match at Leigh, head coach Mark Applegarth detailed: “It was a bit too soon (for Nofoaluma to play tonight).

“He’s fully passed his concussion protocols now, this morning was his last session, so he’ll be back in contention.

“That’ll be pretty fortunate with Scotty (Galeano) going off with a groin injury at half-time.

“I don’t think Bish (Jones-Bishop) is too far off. It’ll be touch and go as to whether he’s in contention for Warrington.

“Liam Harris has had a bit of illness this week as well, but he’s back training now, so there’s a few bodies (on their way back).”

Off-season recruit Sam Wood took a huge hit from Leigh’s front-rower Joe Ofahengaue, who scooped the Player of the Match award from Sky Sports, at the end of the first half.

The Knights man hobbled down the tunnel, but re-emerged for the second half and got through the 80 minutes.

Applegarth revealed it wasn’t that big hit which was most troubling to the centre, explaining: “Woody’s got a pretty nasty toe injury, I think it’s a blister.

“I’m laughing, but I know exactly how painful they are.

“He’ll be alright with that, it’s just a case of bandaging it up and managing him through the week.

“I think it was a knee-on-knee clash (with Ofahengaue). They are painful, but it settled down pretty quickly.

“I took a lot of confidence (during half-time) that he was more bothered about his toe than his knee, and he seemed to get through the second half alright.”
