Super League Team of the Week: Hull FC and Huddersfield star as eight clubs represented

After lengthy discussions at Love Rugby League towers, we’ve managed to settle on our Super League Team of the Week from Round 22 of the 2026 season.

There were a number of outstanding individual displays over the weekend in the top flight, making our job in terms of selection a very difficult one.

Here are our picks, with eight Super League clubs represented…

Jai Field (Wigan Warriors)

Another good afternoon’s work for Field, who scored a try and assisted two others as Wigan cantered to what ended up a comfortable victory at home against Toulouse.

Harvey Barron (Hull FC)

Youth product Barron grabbed the first career hat-trick as FC sprung one of the shocks around with a win at St Helens, clocking up 168 metres in the process.

Zach Eckersley (Wigan Warriors)

Eckersley added another two tries to his tally for the season as Wigan beat Toulouse, with this among his best performances as a centre so far.

Connor Wrench (Huddersfield Giants)

Huddersfield made it three wins on the spin as they thumped Catalans on home soil, and Wrench was at the heart of their success. Scoring two tries, he chalked up 201 metres and had a huge impact in attack throughout.

Matty Ashton (Warrington Wolves)

Had Ashton not been sidelined this season, you wonder where Wire would be sitting on the Super League ladder. He impressed again as they swept aside Bradford at Odsal, scoring a brace as he made a whopping 253 metres.

Tyrone May (Hull KR)

Now, we know May plays scrum-half, but we had to get him into our Team of the Week so he’s in at 6. The Samoa international was a shining light as Rovers cantered to victory at Castleford, laying on somewhat of a clinic with two tries of his own and an assist. Superb stuff.

Jake Connor (Leeds Rhinos)

When you talk about Man of Steel performances, Friday night’s effort from Connor at Wakefield certainly falls into that category. As you’d expect, he was at the heart of the Rhinos’ remarkable comeback at Belle Vue to put one hand on the League Leaders’ Shield. Everything went through him, and he even slotted over the winning conversion – of course he did!

Joe Ofahengaue (Leigh Leopards)

It was another monstrous display from Ofahengaue as Leigh edged York in a tight contest on home soil, the type of performance we’ve become accustomed to from the Queenslander. 24 tackles and 99 metres with the ball in hand in a 54-minute stint tells its own story, with his first half try well deserved.

Danny Walker (Warrington Wolves)

Walker has stepped it up a gear over the last few weeks for Wire, and had his prints on everything they did well at Odsal as they beat Bradford. 102 metres made with an average gain of 15 metres added to by a tackle count of 25 – very good stuff throughout.

Herman Ese’ese (Hull FC)

Ese’ese produced his best performance since returning from injury for Hull in their victory at Saints, getting them on the front foot right from the off with the sort of carries we got used to seeing before he was sidelined. The big man was denied a try by the video referee in controversial fashion, but produced more than enough on both sides of the ball to warrant his inclusion here.

Isaiah Vagana (Wakefield Trinity)

Trinity will be left gutted by the result against Leeds having been excellent value for their lead for an hour or so, but Vagana still takes his spot in our Team of the Week. As he has done all year, the back-rower stood up to almost everything thrown at him by Leeds, and offered plenty of threat with the ball in hand, getting on the scoresheet.

Sam Hewitt (Huddersfield Giants)

Hewitt was another of the Giants’ standouts in their big win over Catalans, putting in a performance which leaves only the question of where it’s been all year. A try and 24 tackles only paint a minute piece of the picture, with Hewitt enjoying a leading role in a simply dominant pack.

Cam Smith (Leeds Rhinos)

Smith will join Wakefield next season – and on Friday night, showed them how good a player they are getting with a Player of the Match display to help Leeds to victory at Belle Vue. Amid all the remarkable statistics which belong to him, his try-saving tackle on Cam Scott alone underlined just how good a performance he put in. Incredible work.
