Barrow Raiders half-back Jarrod Sammut has received a five-match suspension for a Grade E charge of disputing a decision.

Sammut, 36, was sent off for dissent against Halifax Panthers in the Championship, with Paul Crarey’s side going on to lose 48-20 at the Shay Stadium in Round 16.

The veteran playmaker questioned the official’s decision after he was penalised for a tackle.

A statement from the Rugby Football League read: “Jarrod Sammut of Barrow Raiders has been suspended for five matches, and fined £375, after being found guilty of a Grade E charge of disputing a decision “using aggressive language or body language” during the Betfred Championship match at Halifax on June 25.

“Sammut’s not guilty plea was rejected.”

Meanwhile, Castleford Tigers prop forward Liam Watts was successful in overturning his Grade C dangerous contact picked up during the side’s 22-0 defeat to St Helens in Super League last Friday.

The 32-year-old will now be free to face Leigh Leopards at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle this Friday, with an 8:00pm kick-off.
