Gerrard’s season could be over

Widnes coach Denis Betts has revealed that the Vikings could be without forward Alex Gerrard for the rest of the season.

The 24-year-old has been struggling with a knee problem, and Betts fears that a season-ending operation could be the player’s only option when it comes to resolving the issue.

“We’re assessing him this week but the possibility of Alex not playing this year is looming high at the moment,” Betts told the Liverpool Echo.

“I think we’re looking at some major knee surgery on Alex. We’re not sure exactly what it is at the moment.

“We’re still waiting for some feedback. He’s struggled most of the year and this could be a big blow for us and a bigger blow for Alex.

“But what the timescale is we’re not sure but he won’t feature for the next few weeks and maybe for a long period.”
