Warrington boss Steve Price hailed a “really clinical” performance from his side as they ran in 10 tries to thrash Salford 62-18 at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Former Red Devils full-back Stefan Ratchford scored 26 points for Warrington while Wolves’ star centre Toby King grabbed a brace of tries to celebrate signing a new contract to keep him at the club for another four years.

Gareth Widdop and Jake Mamo also scored two tries apiece for the visitors as Salford collapsed in the second half – at one point they were down to 11 men after Darcy Lussick and Morgan Escare were sinbinned in quick succession.

Wolves coach Price singled out Widdop and Ratchford for special praise but was delighted with the whole team’s performance.

He said: “I thought the intent we showed at the start and how we played with the ball was really clinical. The boys were really ruthless in that second half.

“It’s a credit to the playing group that we delivered till the end.

“I thought Gareth Widdop was outstanding tonight and Stefan Ratchford at the back too. Everyone contributed to a really solid performance.”

Price was also happy that Warrington had managed to secure King on a new long-term contract.

He said: “It’s great news for the club. He’s one of our own and he’s come through our system.

“He showed his maturity with that performance and the way he went about his work. As a club and as a playing group we are really pleased he’s staying.”
