Fletcher doubtful for Leigh clash

Richard Fletcher (swollen knee) is doubtful for Saturday’s Co-operative Championship fixture against Leigh.

Barrow coach Steve McCormack is hoping for good news on a number of other players. James Nixon sees a consultant next week with a view to starting full training, while James Coyle is also set to return to training in the next 10 days.

However, Chris Larkin will have a knee operation later this week and there are still doubts surrounding Matt James’ fitness for the rest of the season.

McCormack said: “Leigh have been an outstanding team this season.

“They’re very physical and well organised. We know we’ll have to be at our best to get a result this week.”

Tommy Goulden returns for Leigh, as do Lee Mitchell, Matty Blythe, Tyrone McCarthy and Jacob Emmitt.

Assistant coach Paul Rowley said: “We’ve got some fresh bodies returning, and it’s a good time to have them.

“We’ve got to play Featherstone five days after this trip to Barrow, and all our games coming up are six pointers.

“We want to be in the top two places by the end of the season and then kick on from there when the play-offs start.”
