Tonga international signs for Melbourne

Melbourne Storm have signed Tonga star Solomone Kata from New Zealand Warriors ahead of the June 30 transfer deadline. 

Tonga international Kata and Gold Coast Titans forward Max King have signed with Storm until the end of the 2020 season with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, young hooker Harry Grant has been promoted to Storm’s top 30 squad after impressing in the Intrust Super Cup.

Melbourne general manager Frank Ponissi commented: “We are delighted to be able to sign two players of Solomone and Max’s calibre and thank the Warriors and Titans for allowing them to join us before the June 30 deadline.

“We’re also very pleased to promote the Intrust Super Cup’s best player of the past two seasons – Harry Grant – to our top 30 squad.

“Harry has been part of our system for some time and his NRL contract is a great reward for the dedication he has put into improving his game.

“We expect he will have a bright future here in Melbourne.”

Meanwhile, Storm have released full-back Scott Drinkwater from his contract so he can continue his career with the North Queensland Cowboys with immediate effect.
