Scotland international Dave Scott to join Coventry as player-coach

Scotland international Dave Scott will take up a player-coaching role at Coventry Bears ahead of the 2021 season.

The 27-year-old has made more than 130 career appearances for Featherstone, Doncaster and Batley. He has earned 12 caps for Scotland.

Scott said: “I am delighted to be joining Coventry Bears in both a playing and coaching capacity for the 2021 season.

“I certainly didn’t expect to be undertaking a coaching role at this stage in my career. I had the option to stay in Championship, but these opportunities don’t come along too often so I couldn’t turn it down as it may never present itself again.

“Although I have previous coaching experience at community, amateur and university level, this will be my first coaching exploit in the professional game and I’m really excited to get stuck in and face the challenges which it will entail.

“I hope that the younger generation of Coventry players will benefit from my on-field experiences, playing with some quality players during World Cup and Four Nations competitions, as well as my off-field knowledge from having a PhD in sport science.”
