The highlights from the four surviving Betfred Championship fixtures over the weekend.

Newcastle Thunder 40-24 Whitehaven

On Saturday, 719 fans witnessed a 64-point game in Newcastle.

It was Thunder who claimed a 40-24 victory, their second win of the season, over Whitehaven at Kingston Park Stadium. 

Wigan loanee Sam Halsall scored a hat-trick for Eamon O’Carroll’s side. Matty Nicholson opened the scoring for the hosts, while both Craig Mullen and Gideon Boafo crossed for a brace. Hooker Josh Eaves also scoring.

Featherstone Rovers 30-12 London Broncos

Featherstone continued their unbeaten start to the 2022 Betfred Championship campaign following a 30-12 over London Broncos.

Rovers recorded an impressive 2,796 home attendance for the clash.

Brian McDermott’s side have won their first four games of the season, while Broncos remain winless so far in 2022.

York City Knights 4-40 Leigh Centurions

Leigh claimed a 40-4 victory over York at the LNER Community Stadium.

It was a dominant performance from half-back Joe Mellor, who led his side to victory.

James Fords’ side have won two of their opening four games so far in the 2022 Betfred Championship competition. They host Newcastle Thunder this weekend in the Challenge Cup.

Dewsbury Rams 10-36 Widnes Vikings

Widnes Vikings returned to the top of the Championship table following a 36-10 victory over Dewsbury Rams at the Tetley’s Stadium.

It was the fourth edition of Monday Night Rugby League live on Premier Sports.

Lloyd Roby scored a brace, but it was powering back-rower Adam Lawton who received praise following a man of the match performance.

Featherstone sit close behind in second just on points difference. Leigh sit third, having won three of their opening four ties.
