Batley have signed former Widnes half-back Tom Gilmore ahead of the 2021 season.

The 26-year-old had initially signed for Ottawa Aces for 2021 – but the Canadian club then decided to postpone their entry to League 1 until 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Gilmore made 58 first team appearances for hometown club Widnes before leaving the Vikings at the end of 2019 to join Halifax, where he played two games. He has also spent time on loan at Super League side Salford this season.

Batley coach Craig Lingard said: “Tom will be a great fit for us.

“He brings a wealth of experience at the highest level, and a strong knowledge of Championship rugby league as well.

“We’re looking forward to working with him, he’ll be a massive asset to the squad.”
