Another reported Warrington Wolves target has resolved his future by signing a new long-term deal to remain in the NRL.

Head coach Daryl Powell has recently confirmed that he is looking into the player market, with Thomas Mikaele having left the club to return to Australia earlier this year, and Josh McGuire recently slapped with a huge 12-match ban.

Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells previously linked the Halliwell Jones Stadium side with Scott Sorensen, Josh Kerr and Makahesi Makatoa, eyeing up one of the NRL players as a replacement for Mikaele.

But New Zealand international Sorensen has confirmed his future by signing a new three-year contract with back-to-back premiers Penrith Panthers.

The forward scored a try in the club’s 2022 NRL Grand Final victory over Parramatta Eels, and was rewarded with an international call-up at last year’s World Cup, making his debut for New Zealand in the group stage fixture against Lebanon.

It follows the news that Kerr, 27, will make the switch to the Dolphins for the 2024 season on a two-year deal.

The forward came through the junior system at the Redcliffe Dolphins, and later made his NRL debut with St George Illawarra Dragons in 2019.

He has gone on to make 67 appearances for the club, including 13 in the current season.

Remaining NRL target Makatoa is on contract with Parramatta Eels until the end of 2024, having made 41 appearances for the side since his debut in 2021.

The former Featherstone Rovers prop represented Cook Islands at last year’s World Cup in England, featuring in all three of their group stage fixtures against Wales, Papua New Guinea and Tonga.

Scott Sorensen on new deal

On his new Penrith Panthers deal, Sorensen said: “This club gave me an opportunity in 2021 and I am over the moon to be continuing my journey here at Panthers.

“I know I wouldn’t be in this position without Ivan Cleary, the incredible staff and of course my team-mates.

“I love this club – it’s a very special place to be. To secure my and my family’s future here at Penrith means the world.”
