Warrington are reportedly looking at NRL trio Scott Sorensen, Josh Kerr, Makahesi Makatoa as potential replacements for Thomas Mikaele.

Mikaele, 25, was released by the club on compassionate grounds earlier this month and returned to Australia with Gold Coast Titans for the remainder of the 2023 season.

His final game came at home in the 36-4 win over Hull, his 18th appearance in Super League.

Sky Sports pundit Jon Wells has since linked Warrington with Sorensen, Kerr and Makatoa as potential replacements, with room now available on the salary cap.

Penrith Panthers forward Sorensen has made 87 appearances in the NRL since his debut in 2014 with Cronulla Sharks. He has also featured for Canberra Raiders and represented New Zealand at the delayed 2021 World Cup.

He made his Test debut off the bench in the pool win over Jamaica, Sorensen’s only appearance at the tournament in England.

Kerr, 27, has played his NRL career to date with St George Illawarra Dragons, making his debut in 2019 against South Sydney Rabbitohs.

He has also represented Indigenous All Stars, and has made 59 NRL appearances.

Wells also linked the Halliwell Jones Stadium side with Cook Islands international Makahesi Makatoa. The forward has previously played in England for one season with Featherstone Rovers back in 2019, and later earned a shot with Parramatta Eels in 2021.

He has made 34 NRL appearances to date.

All three players are off-contract at the end of the current season.
