Leigh coach Adrian Lam was full of praise for Robbie Mulhern after the in-form prop put in an enormous performance in their win over Hull.

Ireland international Mulhern played 72 minutes straight to help the Leopards win their eighth game on the spin in all competitions as they beat Hull 28-16 on Friday night.

Speaking after the game, Lam paid tribute to the hard-working front-rower, who has impressed since linking up with the club in the off-season rom Warrington.

Lam said: “I think it was 72 minutes. He was angry I took him off as well!

“I’m probably being a little bit bias being the coach, but where he is at this year compared to where he’s been in the past… He’s been on another level.

“I think he’s an international player on the top line of international rugby league at the moment. I don’t mean to go over the top with it, but if you watch him every week he’s just unbelievable.

“Tom Amone is exactly the same, they’ve both been working off each other really well. One week one player will play really big minutes and the other will be a little bit less and it was Mul’s turn this week to get that time out.

“Even at the end when I took him off, there’s a 9/10 the whole time, he is consistent the whole time.

“He’s at a point now where I don’t know if he’s tired because it doesn’t change and that’s credit to him. He’s a popular member of the group and he’s certainly leading the way with who we want to be as a group moving forward.”

Adrian Lam on Leigh moving into third in the Super League table

Leigh’s win saw them move up to third in the Super League table after a terrific start to the season, winning 10 from 15 games in Super League.

Lam said he never envisaged his side sitting third in the ladder so soon after promotion, but believes they can get even better.

He said: “I didn’t think I’d ever be able to say we were third in the table. But we are working hard and we deserve it.

“Some of the rugby we have played in the last two months has been spectacular. But as a group we know we can still improve.

“Everyone is playing to the best of their ability at the moment which is a good sign. I am grateful that we’ve been able to manage the tough parts of games. I was disappointed with the tries we conceded but to be honest I knew we’d be a bit off.”

Leigh will turn their attention to the Challenge Cup next weekend when they travel to York in the quarter-finals.
