Leigh have the best player in Super League at present in the shape of Papua New Guinea star Lachlan Lam, according to former England international turned pundit Kevin Brown.

The Leopards have enjoyed a stunning start to life back in Super League, with Adrian Lam’s side currently sat fourth in the table having won nine from 14 games so far.

May was a special month for the club in particular, with Adrian Lam and his son Lachlan scooping Super League’s Coach and Player of the Month awards respectively.

And speaking on this week’s The Last Tackle show on The Sportsman’s YouTube channel, Brown hailed the recent performances of Lachlan.

“I think he’s probably the best player in the comp at the minute,” Brown said.

“I think he got the Betfred Player of the Month and his dad the Coach of the Month, I don’t know if that’s ever been done before.

“When we say he’s (Adrian Lam) assembled a good side, I think the nucleus of them imports that he’s got in (Edwin) Ipape, (Tom) Amone, (John) Asiata, but Lachlan Lam is playing sensational at the minute.”

Also appearing on The Last Tackle, Super League legend Paul Sculthorpe said Edwin Ipape, Lam’s team-mate for club and country, is up there with the best hookers in the competition.

“He’s (Adrian Lam) put a very good rugby league team together and some good players who are playing well,” Sculthorpe said.

“Week in, week out, they’re growing in confidence. I thought Lachlan Lam was outstanding.

“Edwin Ipape could be the best nine in the comp. I think he’s been oustanaind and they’re definitely a club on the up.

“They’re in the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup, they’ve drawn York and likely to get through to the semi-finals then they’re only one game from Wembley there and fourth in Super League.

“They’re a confident club and playing a great brand of rugby.”
