Parramatta Eels have officially granted back-rower Jack Murchie an early release from his contract with one-year remaining.

The 26-year-old is expected to join Huddersfield Giants on a three-year deal ahead of the 2024 Super League campaign, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Murchie joined the Eels ahead of the 2023 NRL campaign from the New Zealand Warriors.

Parramatta’s general manager of football Mark O’Neill said: “Jack is a wonderful person and we would like to thank him for his time at our club and wish him all the best for his future.”

The former Australia under-23s representative has made just five appearances in the current season. He made his professional debut with Canberra Raiders in 2018 and later enjoyed his most successful stint to date with the Warriors from 2020 to 2022, making 37 appearances.

He has made a total of 45 NRL appearances, scoring seven tries.

Huddersfield Giants off-contract list

Ian Watson has already confirmed that Jack Ashworth and Owen Trout will leave the club at the end of the year to pursue new playing opportunities.

2022 Lance Todd Trophy winner Chris McQueen remains off-contract at the end of the current campaign, with Watson admitting the Australian will announce his decision when he’s ready.

Veteran winger Jermaine McGillvary looks set to leave his hometown club if he is to continue his playing career. The 35-year-old former England international has made more than 300 appearances for the Giants.

Nathan Mason and George Roby are without deals beyond the current campaign, while centre Leroy Cudjoe is expected to re-sign for the 2024 campaign, which will mark his 20th season with Huddersfield.

Newcastle Knights half-back Adam Clune has been linked with a move to the John Smith’s Stadium for 2024 to replace Catalans-bound Theo Fages.

Hull duo Andre Savelio and Adam Swift are set to join the club, with their exits from the MKM Stadium already confirmed.

Love Rugby League previously revealed that back-rower Savelio had held talks with Huddersfield, with head coach Watson later confirming his interest.
