It appears that sought-after forward Owen Trout has played his final game for Huddersfield after suffering a season-ending injury.

The 23-year-old picked up a knee injury in Huddersfield’s 28-0 defeat to Hull KR a fortnight ago and didn’t feature in last week’s game against Leigh.

Trout, a highly-rated young forward, confirmed the devastating news via his Instagram on Tuesday night that he won’t play again this season due to injury.

Trout said: “The rollercoaster that is RL. Truly gutted to have my season come to an end so soon. 2023 we are coming for you.”

The club then followed up, tweeting: “Owen Trout has confirmed that he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season with an injury following a scan.”

“Get well soon, Trouty.”

The England Knights international is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with moves to Castleford and Hull FC.

However, Yorkshire Live reported last week that Leigh have won the race to sign Trout, who the Giants reportedly wanted to keep.

When asked about the latest on Trout’s future in his press conference last Thursday, Watson replied: “Nothing from us. I think there are quite a few clubs in for him.

“Like we’ve said before, he’s been getting offers from a few places so he’ll have to make his decision on what he thinks is best for his career on the back end of that.

“It’s hard to look in a different direction when people are throwing contracts at you and them being very attractive.

“There aren’t loads of middles knocking around who are young and British, so you can see if people have got more space in their salary cap than we have or another club, then that’s how they’ll potentially get him in on the back end of that.

“With it being a salary cap makes it really intriguing and difficult at times as well because you want to keep certain players within your squad, but you know that you can’t keep everybody as well because you can’t pay everybody what they think they’re worth or what they are worth at that time. You’ve got to balance out what’s right for you, for them and for the club.”

Trout has made more than 50 appearances for Huddersfield since arriving from Leeds in 2020.
