Newcastle have signed full-back or half-back Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e on a deal until the end of the 2021 season.

The 34-year-old was granted a release from his contract with Championship Halifax over the weekend after Fax coach Simon Grix had told him he wasn’t in his plans for next year.

Laulu-Togaga’e – who has earned two caps for Samoa – will help Thunder push for promotion to the Championship this season as joins with immediate effect.

Newcastle coach Simon Finnigan said: “He’s someone I know pretty well, I coached him at Toronto and he has a lot of talent.

“He plays the game very well and sees the game very well.

“We’re probably going to play him in a different position to what he has played most of his career but one he has played at Super League level.

“He is certainly going to add to our squad. He is easy going but knows when to be serious and he is going to be good for our group.”
