Castleford Tigers head coach Lee Radford has been left frustrated following the yellow card to Mahe Fonua.

Fonua, 29, was sent for 10 in the first half for a late shot on Jai Field. The incident sparked discussions across social media, many questioning the decision.

Radford has been left disappointed that disciplinary and referee decisions is a continued conversation within the sport.

Lee Radford: ‘It’s boxing without being able to throw a punch’

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Radford said: “It’s not the game of rugby league. It’s not what we were brought up on. I don’t know what that is.

“It’s boxing without being able to throw a punch.

“I just thought with the extra coverage with Channel 4, Premier Sports and some high quality games, the quality that’s been showed on Sky, I thought there was a real buzz around the game; something I’ve not seen for a long time.

“But all we’re talking about is this (cards) and we shouldn’t be.

“We should be rewarding the stuff on the field and off it. But this is the topic.

“How many times am I getting asked these questions every week. In typical rugby league fashion, we’ve shot ourselves in the foot.”

Tigers suffered a handful of injuries within the game. Joe Westerman has gone to hospital with an eye injury, while Cheyse Blair and Gareth O’Brien also suffered knocks.

“We’ve averaging three injuries a week at the minute,” added Radford.

“Westerman has gone to hospital with his eye. Blair has a cut on his hand that may have gone through the ligaments. Gareth O’Brien also left the field with a nose injury.”

Matt Peet in agreement

Wigan coach Matt Peet was also left confused following the decision.

He said: “I didn’t see what it was for. Seeing it back, I thought it was harsh. Unfortunately, it feels like we’re talking about this sort of stuff every week.”

There are no new injury concerns for Wigan following the win.
