Doncaster have beaten several Championship clubs to the signature of Scotland forward Frankie Mariano on a deal until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old was released from his contract by Championship side Featherstone Rovers last week by mutual consent.

Mariano, who represented Scotland at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, could make his debut against Bradford Bulls in a highly-anticipated Betfred League 1 clash this weekend.

Dons head coach Richard Horne is made up to have fought off a few Championship clubs for Mariano’s services.

He said: “Frankie is a great signing for the club, we beat a couple of Championship clubs to his signature and he arrives with the experience of playing at international level and has also played a number of games in Super League.

“He will add more size and strength to our pack which is needed in this division.

“I am looking forward to working with him for the rest of the season and he is confident he can help us reach our goal of making the top four.”

The Dons welcome Bradford to the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday in a top of the table clash, 3pm kick-off.
