BARLA 16-12 Manly Select

After having the game hastily changed from Dewsbury Rams to Castleford Lock Lane ARLFC because of badgers set at the ground, BARLA had a magnificent win over a Manly Select Side who were playing the opening game on tour.

Played in continuous rain BARLA came from behind to lead at halftime and swapped converted tries in the second half to record a memorable win over their Australian visitors.

BARLA were superb in defence and kept their cool when the game threatened to erupt at times with the Australians bringing the 'biff' into the game.

After dominating the early stages BARLA went behind as Manly's Scott Borg showed his speed and class to score and Scott Kenna added the extras.

But BARLA hit back with two tries in a six minute spell when winger Chris Lee finished off a move in the corner following a Tim Sutcliffe break and Anthony Atherton finished off his scoot from the play the ball and grubber into the in-goal. Craig Holmes added the extras and they went into the sheds 10-6 ahead.

The home side had two defend four consecutive sets and defended magnificently and broke away from 80 meters through Sutcliffe. He passed inside to Kevin Brown who went under the posts for a converted try.

On the hour the deficit was down to four points again as Clint Lowe went in and the crowd held it's breath in the final minutes as Kenna intercepted 90 meters out with the try line ahead of him. Somehow the BARLA players chased back to bring him down and glory was theirs.
