James Graham’s only focus is St Helens this season

James Graham is determined to enjoy success with St Helens this season, but will not make any promises beyond the 2020 campaign.

The forward officially returned to his boyhood club on Tuesday after a lengthy spell out in Australia’s NRL with Canterbury Bulldogs and St George Illawarra Dragons.

During his first stint at St Helens, Graham made over 200 appearances and will make his second debut next month.

Graham told Saints TV: “It has been a whirlwind couple of days and I’m delighted and I can’t wait to get back and put the training kit on.

“I was on the phone to Paul Wellens (assistant coach), me and him are still good mates and he is assistant coach and we speak pretty regularly.

“Wello asked me if I would come this year and I was like ‘I don’t know because it’s not as easy as that’ but that planted the seed.

“A few conversations happened and it all fell into place and I’m just going to go all into Saints this year and not worry about next year.

“I won’t make promises I can’t keep, the plan is to give everything into this year and it’s not about me. It’s about the squad and group doing their best.

“St Helens is a team that demands success and most would agree they were the best in the league last year so there is expectation, but it’s about the group and trying to win something for the club.”

Graham will join up with his team-mates once formal training resumes ahead of the resumption of the Super League season, which is set to be on August 2.
