Williams signs new Quins deal

Home-grown youngster Dave Williams has signed a new one year deal with Harlequins to keep him at the Stoop until the end of 2010.

Williams joined Harlequins at the age of 15 as an academy player. In 2008 he began training with the first team and made his Super League debut later that year. He was awarded a squad number in 2009 although injury ruled him out for much of the season.

A hard working prop, London born Williams follows in the footsteps of Tony Clubb and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook as products of the Harlequins youth system that have made it to Super League.

Williams said: “I played with Tony Clubb and Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook throughout my junior career; seeing them and others break through into the first team gave me the belief that I could too.

“I struggled with injuries last season but now I’m raring to go. You learn so much everyday in training and I can’t wait for the preseason programme to begin.”

Harlequins head coach, Brian McDermott said: “Dave will be the first to admit he had a frustrating year with injury. These are still the very early stages of his career and we’re all looking forward to getting things back on track.”
