Wakefield have signed Australian prop Shane Tronc for the 2010 season.

The 27-year old has signed on a two-year deal from North Queensland Cowboys and will join up with the Wakefield squad ahead of the 2010 season.

Tronc has been in outstanding form in the NRL this season and in his six seasons with the Cowboys he has so far made 119 NRL appearances.

He is the Cowboys top tackler with 509 in eighteen games in 2009 and leads the way for most metres gained at the club with over 2200 metres so far this season.

The prop was a member of the Cowboys team that made the NRL Grand Final in 2005 and lost out to West Tigers.

“When the opportunity to acquire a player of Shane Tronc’s undoubted ability came up the club jumped at the chance,” explained Wildcats Head Coach John Kear.

“We see the signing as a continuation of our great and sustained improvement.”

“Shane will play a vital part in the squad next season and dovetails nicely with the signings of Terry Newton and Glenn Morrison in the engine room of the pack,” Kear added.

Australian Tronc is excited to ply his trade in the Super League from next season.

“I have always harboured a desire to play in Super League and I’m looking forward to the new challenge,” Tronc enthused.

“Wakefield are a club on the improve and are going places on the back of good coaching, and I was very impressed with the clubs professionalism during negotiations with my agent.”

“I have been enjoying my footy in Australia this year and I’m very happy with my form.  I feel I can offer Wakefield a strong work ethic, the tough yards, a committed defence and a 100% effort each week,” he added.
