Tips for the weekend

It seems such a long time since we last had a Super League game, plenty has happened since. The continued fall out from the licensing announcement, the challenge cup semi finals, announcements of an artificial pitch at Widnes and Sean Long retiring to take up a coaching role and Salford. It’s been so busy I haven’t got time to do anything but bring you my tips for the weekend.

Last time out I managed to get just two wrong, not a bad return for a weekend of Super League, as Crusaders put on a show of force that been missing all season and put 40 on Wakefield, and Huddersfield managed a return to some kind of performance with a win over Hull KR.

So here’s my tips for this week.

Crusaders 18 – 8 Harlequins – There are still Crusaders players yet to decide their future for next year and they’ll be wanting to put themselves on people’s shopping lists. I think everyone will be aiming to give the team as good an end to the season as they can and I can see a win here against Quins.

Hull FC 12 – 18 Catalans – Hull FC are pressing to secure that last play off place and a home loss to Wigan last time out hasn’t helped with local rivals Hull KR pressing down on them. Whilst Catalans play off place is secure they’ll be wanting to leap frog Huddersfield and claim the fourth place and I’m going to back them to sneak this from Hull.

Leeds 22 – 10 Castleford – A repeat of last weeks cup game which Leeds snatched in golden point extra time, I think this will be a tight encounter with Cas looking for some pay back but I think they may have been stretched too far last time to go out and haul Leeds down again. A couple of late tries for Leeds to shore up a close game.

St Helens 28 – 12 Huddersfield – Back to winnning ways for Huddersfield last week however going straight into a game against Saints will do little to help build up momentum into the play offs. A Saints win for me to help sure up that 3rd place, 2nd is too far for them now.

Wigan 30 – 12 Salford- I imagine the fight for the top spot will go down to the last week and for me Wigan are likely to win it, with Warrington only one point behind a loss to a team like Salford is unthinkable. They’ll have too much for the City Reds this weekend.

Warrington 52 – 8 Wakefield – Well the score line prediction says it all, I expect Wakey to get smashed by Warrington this weekend. Having racked up 50+ 8 times already this season Warrington have been free scoring against lower teams, though they have slipped up, and they could well be on course to pass the half century 10 times this season.

Bradford 8 – 16 Hull KR – Bradford may still be harbouring slim hopes of a play off place but they are very marginal, especially up against a Hull KR team hoping to sneak into the play offs as well. A close tough game with KR coming out on top.

And that is all ladies and gents – normal service resumes next week!
