Wigan centre Iain Thornley is facing a long spell on the sidelines, after Shaun Wane confirmed that a knee injury had ended the player’s season.

The 22-year-old made his first appearance for four months in the defeat to Widnes on Friday, after suffering a damaged pectorial muscle earlier in the season.

Unluckily for the player, this new injury occurred during training.

“It’s a real shame for Iain,” Wigan coach Wane told reporters.

“His form earlier this year before he tore his pec was outstanding, and I was really looking forward to getting him back.”

The player himself remained optimistic that he would make a quick recovery, however, and took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.

“Thanks for all the messages! Not had the best of news but Wigan are doing everything to help me get back fit as soon as!” Thornley tweeted.
