Tony Smith says Warrington made some big improvements as they cruised to a 50-10 victory over Leigh on Friday.

Tom Lineham’s four try haul was the highlight of a solid performance and Smith believes the result will be a big boost to his team’s confidence.

“I thought it was a good all-round performance,” said Smith. “Our defence was good – we had to do a bit, particularly early in both halves which was crucial for us defensively.

“I thought they had some field position and attacked our line and we withstood that attack.

“The pleasing part tonight was our attack was much improved. We asked some questions and came up with some good answers as well.

“I thought some of our off-loads were good – a bit creative. I thought we got a bit conservative in the second half, but I can understand that mentality as it was wet and with the scoreline.

“There was a bit more rugby league played by us tonight which was refreshing for all of us to see.

“We’ve got two tough games to go. We want to play well – it’s important that we played well tonight.

“No matter what happens in two weeks’ time we’ve still got a number of rugby league games to go this year.

“Regardless of whether it’s Super 8s or Middle 8s, it’s important to get that feeling that we can play really good rugby league, to get confidence back there tonight.”
