The Rugby League European Federation (RLEF) have confirmed that the Serbia national team coach Marko Jankovic has been charged, following the brawl at the game between his team and Ireland over the weekend.

It has been reported that Jankovic punched Ireland winger Rob Armstrong as he was about to score his third try of the game.

Ireland were leading 26-14 at the time, with around 15 minutes of the match remaining.

The assault on Armstrong triggered a mass brawl between both teams, and the match was abandoned by the referee.

A statement on the RLEF website reads:

“Serbia national team coach Marko Janković has been charged by the RLEF for a breach of law 15.1(i) (behaviour contrary to the true spirit of the game) during Serbia’s match against Ireland on 29 August in Belgrade.

“The RLEF Disciplinary Committee will convene on Thursday 3 September to consider the case.”
