Salford Red Devils have confirmed the signing of Newcastle Knights halfback Michael Dobson, with the Australian joining on a four-year deal from next season.

Dobson played his junior rugby for Canberra Raiders, before spending a spell at Catalan Dragons in 2006.

He subsequently played for Wigan, before moving back to Canberra in 2007. He joined Hull KR in 2008, and spent five years at the club, guiding them into the play-offs in most of his seasons in East Hull.

Salford coach Iestyn Harris believes that the former Robins man can add enthusiasm and direction to the squad.

“We have been impressed with Michael’s enthusiasm for what we are trying to do at Salford,” said the Welshman.

“He is obviously a terrific talent and his work ethic and excellent kicking game will add some real value to our existing strong squad”

“A number of big name Clubs really wanted him next season so I am delighted we have secured his services. He’s going to bring a great deal of organisational and inspirational play to our line-up and his partnership with the three halves we already have will be one of the most exciting ones in the competition.”
