League One side Rochdale have confirmed half-back Ryan Forshaw has re-signed for the club for the 2022 season.

Forshaw initially signed for the club last year after coming through the academy ranks at Super League side Wigan.

Since then, he made four appearances for the club, scoring one try in an away win at Keighley back in May in a 43-36 victory.

At the turn of the year, Forshaw had been playing for Championship side Bradford on a trial period. He had featured in friendlies against Batley, Hull and Leeds.

However, he has since made the decision to return to Rochdale, as they look to gain promotion from League One.

Speaking to the club website, Forshaw said: “I am really looking forward to being back playing after getting the all-clear from the doctors.

“I’ve played with a few of the new signings before and I am really excited to play with them again and get on the pitch and show the fans what I can do.

Hornets chairman Andy Mazey added: “I think it speaks volumes about what we are doing here and the environment Matt and the staff are creating. Welcome back Ryan!”

Callum Marriott also returns to Rochdale

Rochdale Hornets have announced the re-signing of forward Callum Marriott for the 2022 League 1 season.

A former British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) international, Marriott has signed a new one-year deal with Hornets.

He said: “I can’t wait for the season to start now. Hopefully the team and I can stay injury-free and get some continuity through the season.

“I think we could easily push for promotion this year with the experience along with the youth we have this year.”
