Rochdale Hornets have announced the re-signing of forward Callum Marriott for the 2022 League 1 season.

A former British Amateur Rugby League Association (BARLA) international, Marriott has signed a new one-year deal with Hornets.

He joined the club during the 2019 season from Rochdale Mayfield. Marriott will be joined in the pack by the likes of Fuifui Moimoi, Gavin Bennion and Joe Taira in 2022.

Marriott aims for promotion with Rochdale Hornets

He said: “I can’t wait for the season to start now. Hopefully the team and I can stay injury-free and get some continuity through the season.

“I think we could easily push for promotion this year with the experience along with the youth we have this year.”

Head coach Matt Calland added: “Callum is so important to our team. I’m delighted he’s put pen to paper for another year. All the lads love playing with him and you know what you are going to get week-in, week-out.

“I used to play with his father Karl who is a Hornets legend and sadly passed away at such an early age. Callum is doing him proud and doing a great job of following in his footsteps.”

Chairman Andy Mazey delighted to sign local players

Callum Marriott is a handful of local players to represent Rochdale Hornets in 2022. Paul Brearley, Zac Baker, Jimmy Connaughton and Luke Fowden are all former Rochdale Mayfield players.

Chairman Andy Mazey said: “Callum undoubtedly has everything needed to play at a much higher level. He symbolises our philosophy of having a core of Rochdale lads wearing the Rochdale shirt.

“I’m sure our supporters will be delighted with this news.”
