State of Origin star Selwyn Cobbo has signed a new extended deal with club Brisbane Broncos.

Cobbo was already signed until the end of 2023, but has signed a two-year extension with the club.

The new deal comes after he had reportedly attracted interest from a staggering 14 rival clubs. However, he will remain at Suncorp Stadium until at least the end of the 2025 NRL season.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough year, having crossed for 11 tries in 13 matches. His club form saw him earn his first State of Origin call-up with Maroons at just 19-years-old. He has featured on the wing in both games so far, with the series heading into the third and final game with all to play for.

In total, the winger has made 20 NRL appearances, having made his debut in 2021 against St George Illawarra in Round 13.

Selwyn Cobbo praised by head coach Walters

Broncos head coach Kevin Walters said: “Selwyn has a great sense of the game, great skill and anticipation and a feel for the game. He is a wonderful young player. This is great news for the Broncos.

“I feel that the bigger the occasion, the more involved he gets and the better he goes and we have seen that from his first game in first grade. He’s getting better all the time.

“I just love the way Selwyn goes about his work. He’s always got a smile on his face. We love having him at the Broncos.

“The environment that Selwyn and his team-mates are creating themselves is huge for us. We feel we’re on the right pathway as far as growing our culture as a team and a club.”
