Quins rookie ready for NRL champs

Harlequins youngster Ben Bolger only made his Super League debut three weeks ago; this Sunday he could be facing NRL champions, Melbourne Storm at the Twickenham Stoop.

The London-born back rower admits that whilst the past few weeks have been a bit of a blur, he is having the time of his life.

“It’s all a bit surreal still. A few months ago I didn’t even know I’d be training with the first team, now I’ve made my Super League debut and I’m loving every minute of it.

“The Melbourne Storm squad is full of talented and amazing players. They’re like the Barcelona of rugby league. If I get the opportunity to play against them on Sunday it’ll be the best moment of my life.”

The 20-year-old has followed the Harlequins Rugby League youth development programme since his teens. Bolger combines fulltime training with studying for a degree in business management at Reading University.

“I’m just trying to train really hard, everything else is a bonus. The physicality and speed of Super League is off the radar when compared with everything I’ve done before. You either get involved from the off or let the game pass you by. I’ve been getting stuck in and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Tickets for Harlequins v Melbourne are available now for just £10 adults, £5 under 16’s.
