Paper Talk: Thompson to the NRL, Warrington’s new prop & Toronto linked to Wade

A bonus paper talk this week, with some big moves being talked about in the papers.

Thompson linked with NRL switch

Harry Sunderland trophy winner Luke Thompson could be off to the NRL sooner rather than later, according to reports both Down Under and in the Telegraph this week. He is on contract for 2020, with talk that Canterbury Bulldogs are interested in both him and Great Britain team-mate Alex Walmsley.

Warrington’s new prop

The Warrington Guardian are reporting that Warrington are interested in bringing Sydney Roosters prop Zane Tetevano to Super League. Tetevano was part of the Roosters side that won back-to-back NRL titles, though he was dropped for the 2019 Grand Final. A five-time Cook Islands international, he is in the New Zealand squad for the upcoming tests against Great Britain.

Toronto scour rugby union

While a move for Sonny Bill Williams is looking increasingly unlikely, Toronto Wolfpack are being linked with a number of rugby union players, the highest profile of which is former Wasps star Christian Wade, who recently caught the eye during a trial in the NFL. The Sun also reports that up to nine of the Canada squad at the ongoing Rugby (union) World Cup are being targeted.

Hastings rubbishes rumours

Jackson Hastings has rubbished rumours linking him with an early return to the NRL, reports Wigan Today. Ahead of the Great Britain tour, there had been talk that Brisbane and other clubs Down Under were looking to make a big money offer to bring the Wigan-bound half-back home. He said: “I’m very proud to play in the Super League. We’ve got some of the best players in the world playing in this competition.”
