Paper Talk: RFL suspend Thaler, Field set for Leeds & Amor future

Drew Darbyshire

We’ve had a look through this week’s trade papers.

RFL suspend referee Thaler

Leading referee Ben Thaler has been suspended by the Rugby Football League and is currently subject to an international investigation, report League Express.

The RFL received a complaint about an incident earlier this year and it has stood down the 38-year-old from all his current duties, according to League Express.

Leeds still on course for Field

Leeds Rhinos target Jai Field could still end up in Super League this season after rejecting the offer of a trial at Parramatta Eels, report League Weekly.

The sticking point for the Rhinos, however, is the fact they don’t have a free spot on their overseas quota and are counting on Rhyse Martin getting his Papua New Guinean passport processed, according to League Weekly.

Amor keen to sort out future

St Helens prop Kyle Amor is in the final year of his current contract with the club and he admits that he will have to start thinking about his options, which could include staying with St Helens or moving to another Super League club to continue his career, report League Express.

Amor told League Express: “I’ll certainly be looking to go around again, whether that be at St Helens or elsewhere.”

Hearn still open to RL revamp

Eddie Hearn says he remains open to the prospect of revamping Super League – but only if he is handed full control of the sport, report League Weekly.

Hearn told League Weekly: “If we’re going to revamp it, then we’re going to revamp it our way.”

Hull KR rule out Lisone move

New Zealand Warriors prop Sam Lisone is not a target for Hull KR as they continue to scour the world for a new forward, report League Express.

The Samoa international is not on the Robins’ list of targets and he is more likely to go elsewhere in Super League if he does move to England, according to League Express.

Saints deny interest Mulhern interest

St Helens have denied planning a move for Hull KR prop Robbie Mulhern, report League Weekly.

Mulhern has been linked with Saints as a potential replacement for NRL-bound Luke Thompson. Saints chief executive Mike Rush told League Weekly: “There’s no interest from us at this stage. He is a contracted player to Hull KR.”
