Oldham fan named as Supporters Direct champion

Oldham Roughyeds fan Dave Naylor has been confirmed as the Supporters Direct 2016 Community Champion Award winner.

With a substantial amount of nominations from which to choose, the Supporters Direct Rugby League Council felt that Naylor’s work with his favourite club made him the epitome of a champion supporter.

People were asked to nominate fellow supporters whom they felt went beyond the call of duty in backing their team.

A Supporters Direct statement reads:

“We were looking to celebrate individuals who help build and improve the relationships between the club they support and its fan base, or those who encourage their clubs to have a greater level of community involvement or are involved directly themselves with engaging the wider local community.

“Dave Naylor has worked miracles this season for Oldham RLFC and its supporters, voluntarily taking over the running of the official website, social media accounts and producing video highlights and audio content for supporters to enjoy.

“He has thrown himself into everything with great enthusiasm and aplomb and has not only improved the media side of the club but worked hard to re-connect the club to its supporters and the community it serves.

“Dave has been described by fans as ‘a true club man and one worthy of recognition,’ and ‘an inspiration for all supporters’ with a number stating that Dave’s updates to fans and his contribution to the website and social media have proved ‘invaluable.’
