Ireland international prop Robbie Mulhern has agreed to stay with Hull Kingston Rovers in 2017, the club has confirmed.

Mulhern, 22, joined Rovers ahead of last season, and played 21 games in 2016, scoring one try.

“It’s good to be back and I’m looking forward to kicking on next year and having a good season under Tim [Sheens – Rovers coach],” said Mulhern.

“Everybody at the club has made me feel really welcome since I first joined and I always wanted to stay at Hull KR.

“We’ve got a good group of lads here, we’re going to do our best to push for promotion back to Super League and I want to be part of that.

“We came back in for training today and there’s a positive mood in the camp. We’ve had a good first day working with Tim and the rest of the coaching staff.

“He’s brought some new ideas and it felt like a fresh start, so we’ve just got to work hard and get in the best possible shape for next year.”

Hull KR head of rugby Jamie Peacock was pleased that the prop forward had opted to remain a Robin.

“We’re pleased to confirm that Robbie will remain with us next season,” he said.

“Like a lot of the young players, he needed more regular game time last year to continue his development and he got that against some quality opposition in Super League.

“He’s taken his chance and he’s got a good platform now to progress further next season.

“He’s still very young for a prop but he’ll have a big part to play in 2017 against some really physically demanding opposition.”
