Swinton have confirmed that hooker Luke Waterworth has signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 23-year-old joined the side ahead of the 2017 season and has been a consistent performer for the Lions in recent seasons.

Waterworth, a Championship ever-present for Stuart Littler’s outfit this year, has scored twice in 23 appearances so far in 2019.

Now, he will remain at the club until at least the end of the 2021 season.

A three-game unbeaten run has seen Swinton climb to ninth, six points above second-bottom Barrow, who they take on this afternoon at Heywood Road.

The news is another boost for the Lions, who have recently captured Ben Morris and Nick Gregson and handed out a number of contract extensions to their existing squad members.

On the announcement, Head Coach Stuart Littler said: “It’s another outstanding bit of news to agree a two-year deal with Luke Waterworth.

“Luke is continually developing and is one of the top nines in the competition. He has a great work ethos in regards to the little jobs that the rest of the team truly appreciate.

“Luke is part of our leadership team and is great for togetherness and cohesion within our playing group.

“Again he fits our mould of a young player who is hungry for success and keen to develop. It has been a pleasure to coach Luke for the past two seasons and we are excited by his future development. He is a credit to our club as well as his close knit family.”

Waterworth added: “I’m made up to re-sign for another two years as we are building something special here. I love playing my rugby here and love all the support.

“I can’t wait to finish on a high and build on from this year.”
