Leeds bring in Joe Greenwood on loan from Wigan

Leeds have signed back-rower Joe Greenwood on a two-month loan deal from Wigan.

The 26-year-old has yet to make an appearance for the Warriors in 2020 and has been playing regularly for the club’s reserve team.

Greenwood joined Wigan from NRL side Gold Coast Titans midway through 2018 and scored 11 tries in 33 games for the Warriors.

Wigan executive director Kris Radlinski said: “Joe has been honest with us about wanting to play regular Super League rugby and we were upfront with him by outlining how with a fully fit squad to choose from, we couldn’t guarantee him when his next opportunity would be in the up-coming weeks.

“Things have progressed with Leeds and all parties felt it was a good opportunity for the player and it would be wrong for us to stand in his way. The situation was approached in a considered manner and we will review it in eight weeks’ time.”

Greenwood said: “It is an exciting challenge for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“Like Wigan, Leeds is a club with a tremendous history and when the opportunity came from Kevin Sinfield and Richard Agar, it was one that I was willing to take. I am fit and ready to go and looking forward to meeting the Leeds lads this week.”

Greenwood could make his debut for the Rhinos in Friday’s clash against Warrington.
