Kevin Sinfield can’t wait to see fans back in stadiums

Leeds director of rugby Kevin Sinfield is looking forward to the day when he can welcome fans back to Headingley.

The full Super League fixture list has been published a month out from the opening games on Friday, March 26.

Clubs can start preparing to host matches from round three of the Super League season.

Following the recent update on the Government road map out of Covid-19 restrictions, clubs have been given the go-ahead to plan for the return of crowds in time for round seven fixtures on the weekend of May 22.

Sinfield said: “It’s really important for us to get fans back.

“If you ask the players, the biggest thing they’ve missed is playing in front of crowds.

“We played in an empty stadium for eight months last year – we spent a fair bit of time going to St Helens and Warrington as well – but Headingley just doesn’t feel right when there isn’t a crowd in there.

“We’ve got that brand new stand and we’ve only used it on a couple of occasions.”

The round three fixtures could be played in front of fans, too, for the first time since last March with the Rugby Football League keen to become involved in the pilot events planned by the Government from mid-April.
