Josh Griffin expected to be named in Shaun Wane’s first England squad

Hull centre Josh Griffin is expected to be included in Shaun Wane’s first England squad.

The 29-year-old is believed to be one of several fresh faces in Wane’s squad who will prepare for the Ashes series this autumn.

Griffin has been on the fringes of the selection for the past couple of years but he has caught the eye of Wane with his impressive performances for Hull in 2020.

Speaking last Friday, Griffin said: “I’d say I’m probably in some of the best form of my career at the moment, having kicked on from a strong season last year.

“When I was at Salford I was tipped for England but that’s all it has ever been, tipped. I’ve never quite made that leap.

“Obviously if I get the call I’ll be over the moon and very proud but I’m not going to beat myself up again if I don’t make it either.”

Another player expected to receive a call-up is Castleford hooker Paul McShane, who is also uncapped.
