Jai Field says it was good to get a game under his belt in a man-of-the-match performance for Wigan against Hull KR.

The utility was limited to just four appearances in his debut year with Wigan due to injuries.

He made his first appearance in round one against Leigh, but it was cut short after he suffered a hamstring injury in the first half.

He would later return in August, only to suffer further injuries.

Head coach Matt Peet revealed that the 24-year-old remained in the UK over Christmas to work on his recovery. And that paid off, as he won the man of the match award on Sky Sports.

Jai Field shines at full-back

Field had an impressive game at full-back for the Warriors, scoring arguably the try of the match chasing a kick from the scrum.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Field said: “It’s always good coming down here playing in a hostile ground. It’s nice and loud here. I really enjoyed it.

“We just wanted to try and roll through the front door here today. They’ve got a couple of big boys that play flat and fast but obviously we’ve come out on top.

“Obviously last year was a bit of a write off. So, it was good to tick a game off and hopefully tick a few more off.

“I think we completed quite well. It’s quite windy here today, so we completed well. Kicked long and we had some success.

“They (Hull KR) throw the ball around, chance their arm and like to throw offloads. Being alert, staying up on a couple of their big boys. Offloads was a real threat for them tonight so we tried to lock up those offloads as much as we could.”

Working under Warrington legend and Wigan assistant Lee Briers, Field added: “Everyone knows how great of a player he was. He has a great football mind, so it’s really been enjoyable being coached under him.”
