Catalans Dragons have been awarded a rare penalty try during their Super League Rivals Round clash with Warrington in Perpignan

Adam Keighram was the recipient for the Dragons, with Warrington’s Ben Currie penalised following a chase back to try and clean up a kick at the back.

The Australian playmaker, named in the halves alongside Arthur Mourgue, converted his own try to give the hosts a 10-4 lead.

The official sent the incident to the video referee, with the decision of a penalty try by Marcus Griffiths in the south of France.

“I don’t agree,” said Barrie McDermott live on Sky Sports.

“He may as well moved the opposition player, but he’s got to do his job.

“I’ll tell you what, I think Ben Currie can feel very hard done by there.

“He’s doing his level best to get to the ball.

“I’m still trying to work out whether it’s the correct decision. But it does not matter, it’s now 10-4 to the home side.”

Warrington hit back just minutes later with a solo effort from Matt Dufty, who also assisted the game’s first try to winger Josh Thewlis.

“Never a try”

Former Super League forward Ryan Boyle was among those to share their views on the controversial moment.

He wrote in Twitter: “Never a try that. Shocking decision. Great defensive play by Currie.”
