Hull FC impressed with Sneyd

Hull FC coach Lee Radford and backrower Joe Westerman are looking forward to Marc Sneyd joining them at the KC Stadium next season.

The current Castleford halfback produced a quality second-half performance to help his team to a 20-20 draw at Hull on Thursday evening.

Radford felt that although he struggled to impose himself on the first half, after the interval Sneyd really showed why the Black and Whites were so keen to sign him.

“Marc was quiet for forty but I don’t know too many halves that can be dominant when the pack is getting dominated,” Radford told his club’s official website.

“When they showed some class at the end he really came to the party, it was pleasing long term but massively disappointing short term.

“I would hope with addition of Marc and Leon next year we will be able to see games like that out towards the end.”

Westerman was disappointed that victory was snatched from Hull so late on, but he felt Sneyd was key to Cas grabbing a point.

“The players are gutted. When you play like that for 60 minutes you deserve to win,” he said.

“However I personally think, if we turn up like we did today, we’ll win more than we lose.

“We dominated for the first hour, and the middle came out on top in everything. In the last 20 minutes they scored off two or three kicks, which kills you as a team.

“Credit to Castleford, because they kept coming at us and luckily Marc Sneyd will be with us next year, as he’s very smart.

“He used his head, and got us where we are vulnerable. I definitely felt we deserved the win rather than a draw.”

Despite the result, Radford insisted that he was very proud of his players’ performance, especially on the back of a heavy defeat at Wigan last weekend.

“It is one of them games when we are right in it up to our eye balls but unfortunately just fell short, but I can only applaud the energy efforts and physicality on show tonight,” he said.

“From a coach who obviously works with them day in and day out and to see that I was very proud. I was embarrassed last week and I am extremely proud this week.”
