Higham relishing clash with the best

Warrington hooker Mickey Higham is looking forward to tangling with one of Super Leagues great dummy halves at Magic Weekend.

The Wolves are set to take on near-neighbours St Helens in what should be a classic clash, with James Roby set to operate at 9 for the Saints.

Higham acknowledges that his Saints opposite number is a class act, and is relishing the chance to tangle with England‘s first choice hooker.

“You want to play against the best, and he’s arguably Super League‘s best hooker, and arguably the best in the world,” the Warrington man told Love Rugby League.

“It’s a big test for us, and certainly for me in that position. Any game against him is one I look forward to.”

“You have to take these games when you can. At my age, there’s probably not many left for me now.

“Last year was a bit special, with me putting big Adrian Morley under the sticks for a try.

“Hopefully if we can put in a performance like last year, it’ll be great to play at a great stadium.

“I’m sure the atmosphere will be rocking come Sunday afternoon.”

But Roby is not the only top performer operating at 9 this weekend, according to Higham. Castleford’s Daryl Clark has emerged this season as a pretender to Roby’s crown as Super League‘s best hooker.

“He’s quality, he’s a young kid who’s still learning, but the way he’s progressing is really good,” Higham added.

“I played against him this year, and he’s a real prospect. He’d be an asset in anybody’s team.

“He’s been their spark too, for Cas, when they’ve needed a lift, he’s been there. A lot of stuff comes from him, his pace from the ruck.

“I think I used to have pace like that, 10 or 12 years ago!”
