Henry swaps Knights for Titans

Talented young playmaker Beau Henry has signed with Gold Coast after being released by Newcastle.

Henry, 21, is the second casualty of a player clearout at the Knights following the depature of Corey Paterson to North Queensland.

The rookie halfback has already commenced training with his new team mates, after signing a deal to tie him to the Titans until the end of 2013.

“I’m looking forward to a new challenge with the Gold Coast Titans,’’ said Henry.

“I know (Titans winger) Joe Vickery, we went to school together and played back down in Wollongong, and all the boys have made me feel welcome which is good.

“Hopefully I can get a chance and can prove to the boys that I’m the kind of player that wants to be here at the club and wants to play for everyone.

“I’m definitely going to be out here working hard every day to prove to the boys that I’m ready to play for them.

“If I do get selected that’d be great but there’s been some boys here training throughout the pre-season so I might have to wait my time but when it comes I’ll take it with both hands.’’

Jetstar Titans Coach John Cartwright said Henry was a significant purchase for the club, particularly at this point of the season.

“He’s a great young talent. When he was off contract at the Dragons, I know they were keen to keep him last year despite what’s been said. He took his opportunity at Newcastle and unfortunately for him, with Wayne (Bennett) coming in he’s had to move on and wasn’t needed there,’’ said Cartwright.

“But he’s a great young talent. He did well for Newcastle at the start of the year before running into an injury but he’s back healthy now.
