Salford coach Paul Rowley says Ken Sio will see his name in the headlines soon enough following his impressive start to the season.

The 2021 Super League top try scorer leads the way again this season, with five tries already to his name.

Sio scored in the club’s opening win over Castleford before crossing for four against Toulouse at the AJ Bell Stadium.

The former Parramatta Eels, Hull KR and Newcastle Knights winger represented Combined Nations All Stars in 2021. He crossed twice in their 26-24 victory over England at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in a strong season for the Sio.

Continuing his form into 2022, Sio has made 22 carries so far and made 211 metres in the first two fixtures. The powerful winger is averaging 9.59 metres per carry.

Salford coach Rowley believes the headlines will come for one of his star players, with a trip to Hull up next for his side.

Super League stats: Ken Sio leading the way once again

“He’s a strong ball carrier. He is good out of yardage and he is strong,” Rowley told Love Rugby League.

“He’d happily take two carries in every set out of yardage and that’s what we wanted him to do.

“He does his job. That’s the job of a winger these days; be good out of yardage and to finish tries off. He’s 10/10 in the most two valuable assets that you want from your winger.

“Put all the other stuff into it as well; the fact that he’s low maintenance, a great character and a fantastic team player. We’ve got a first-class person and a first-class player playing at Salford in Ken.”

Headlines to come for Ken Sio

If asked if he deserves more headline credit for his attributions, Rowley joked: “If he does something wrong, his wife gets onto his back and gives him a telling off because she’s a good rugby player as well!

He continued: “Absolutely. He’s chilled is Ken. The important thing is the people that matter know and that’s the rule that I live by.

“I think quite a lot of my players think the same way. They don’t need their names in lights as such, the people that matter, know. That’s the people that are closest to Ken who really appreciate him.

“He’s a great player and we all know it. If he just keeps chipping in, the headlines will come in the end I’m sure.”
