Watch: Gil Dudson sin-binned in first tackle of new Super League season

Catalans forward Gil Dudson was shown a yellow card within the first tackle of the new Super League season.

The Welsh international front rower was sent to the bin on the first tackle by official Liam Moore.

Advised by linesman Robert Hickes, Moore sent Gil Dudson to the bin for striking.

The forward reacted to a strong tackle from Joe Batchelor and new St Helens signing Konrad Hurrell. It sparked a quick coming together of the two sides, which left Dudson with a scratch under his eye.

Catalans winger Fouad Yaha has opened the season’s scoring with a try in the corner.

Will Hopoate and Hurrell make their competitive debuts for St Helens. Hooker Joey Lussick and back-rower Curtis Sironen are named on the bench.

Jack Welsby begins his new chapter with the number one shirt and was named in that spot. While Lewis Dodd and Jonny Lomax link up in the halves for the Saints.

For the Dragons, Mitchell Pearce makes his debut in the halves. He arrives at the Dragons with more than 300 NRL games to his name. He has also represented New South Wales and the NRL All Stars.

Cook Islands international Dylan Napa was named in the front-row for his debut. Tyrone May was named on the bench by head coach Steve McNamara.

More coverage than ever

The Super League opening game is being covered live on Sky Sports.

It’s a historic year for Super League, with Channel 4 covering the sport on free-to-air television for the first time ever.

Australian comedian, presenter and rugby league fan Adam Hills will present the Super League coverage on Channel 4. He will be joined by Helen Skelton throughout the season.

Channel 4’s live coverage begins this Saturday, February 12, as Leeds host Warrington at Headingley Stadium.

Premier Sports have also begun their coverage of Monday Night Rugby League. Featherstone have triumphed on both live games so far with wins over York and Leigh.
