George Williams arrives at Canberra Raiders

George Williams has spoken to the media for the first time since arriving at Canberra Raiders.

The 25-year-old has joined the Raiders on a three-year deal from his hometown club Wigan.

Williams insists he is keeping his first firmly grounded at Canberra though as he targets a starting spot in Ricky Stuart’s side.

He said: “I’m under no illusions of the fact that Canberra are a great team and I have got to find my feet first.

“I’m not presuming that I am going to be picked in round one. I’ve got to work hard and I’ve got six to eight weeks now to prove I’m good enough to play in round one and that’s what I’ll be doing.

“I’ve always wanted to come and test myself in the NRL. I always said from a young age that if I had the chance to do it then I would. I’m 25 now and the NRL is considered the best competition in the world so I’m just looking to test myself.

“There will probably be times throughout the year when I will miss my family but the boys will get around me and I’m sure I’ll be fine.”

Williams scored 63 tries in 184 games for the Warriors, as well as earning 11 caps for England and Great Britain.
