Former RU star appointed, as South Wales rebrand

Former Wales and British Lions rugby union star Lee Byrne has been appointed as director of rugby at South Wales, who have rebranded as the Ironmen.

The new club will be known as South Wales Ironmen, and are set to launch the club’s new era in Merthyr later on Tuesday.

The club is also moving to impressive new facilities at Wern Sports Park, home of Merthyr RFC.

Byrne’s arrival is set to spark a new period of recruitment for the club, with a Welsh league international set to return, as well as players from overseas.
