Oldham have signed young prop Jimmy Beckett on a season-long loan from Featherstone.

The 20-year-old spent time on loan at the Roughyeds from the Rovers last term, making six appearances for the club.

Oldham chairman Chris Hamilton said: “Jimmy did well in recent pre-season games for Rovers but he wanted to come back and we wanted him back.

“We’ve been working on this for a while and we’re delighted to get it over the line.

“Jimmy will be in contention for our first league game against Widnes Vikings on Sunday at Bower Fold, Stalybridge.”

Featherstone director of football, Steve Gill, added: “The loan offers James some valuable playing time, returning to Oldham was ideal as it means he can play in an environment he is familiar with, whilst still competing in the same division he would be playing at the Rovers.

“It also gives us a club the opportunity to see where he is at in his development, we can watch him as he plays rugby league on a regular basis in the Championship and see how far he has come since his last loan.”
